Farmers in the municipality of Brooke’s Point reaped the rewards of their hard work following the successful implementation of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office MIMAROPA’s Risk Resiliency Program – Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (RRP-CCAM), through its flagship initiatives Project LAWA (Local Adaptation to Water Access) and Project BINHI (Breaking Insufficiency Through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished).

Implemented through these initiatives, the program helped transform communal gardens into productive sources of food and income.

Since May 2025, harvests from these gardens had been steady and abundant, providing families with nourishment and alternative livelihood options.

Among the most recent yields were 1,000 kilos of assorted vegetables, including upo, sitaw, pipino, ampalaya, talong, kamatis, and sili haba.

The success was made possible through the collaborative efforts of local government units and various partner organizations.

In Barangay Aribungos, one farmer shared, β€œAng aming hangarin, pinakauna ay ang mapunan ang pagkain ng aming pamilya, at pangalawa na po ang magkaroon kami ng mapagkukunan ng kita.”

This reflected the dual goal of the initiative β€” to combat hunger and promote income generation.
The fruitful harvest stood as a testament to the dedication of partner-beneficiaries and the power of empowered communities to adapt and thrive amid climate challenges.

DSWD Field Office MIMAROPA remained steadfast in supporting farmers and fisherfolk by ensuring access to essential food and water sources, especially during emergencies, in line with the goals of RRP-CCAM through Project LAWA and BINHI.
