In line with the celebration of Philippine Environment Month and Philippine Arbor Day, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) MIMAROPA personnel took part in a meaningful bamboo tree planting activity last June 16, 2025, in Paluan, Occidental Mindoro.

This bamboo planting activity is not just a ceremonial gestureβ€”it is the fruition of earlier groundwork laid during the initial phase of DSWD’s Project LAWA at BINHI implementation.Β

The 230 bamboo cuttings, originally propagated in a bamboo nursery last March 2025, have now taken rootβ€”literally and symbolicallyβ€”within the community, and their transfer to permanent soil marks a significant milestone in the project’s commitment to environmental sustainability, climate resilience, and community empowerment.

Philippine Arbor Day, celebrated annually every June 25, encourages citizens and institutions to plant and nurture trees as part of a broader national effort to reforest and regenerate our degraded environments.Β

When observed alongside Environment Month, which is celebrated throughout June under Proclamation No. 237, the message becomes clearer: protecting the environment isn’t a one-day affairβ€”it’s a continuous, collaborative effort.

Through this activity, the DSWD and partner stakeholders in Paluan demonstrated their support for environmental action while aligning with the project’s core goals of rehabilitating and protecting watersheds and upland ecosystems, particularly in vulnerable areas like Occidental Mindoro.
