Malate, Manila โ€” The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office MIMAROPA recently wrapped up a two-day training session focused on Mobile Kitchen operations for its Regional Quick Response Team (QRT) from July 16 to 17 at the Agency Operations Center.

Spearheaded by the Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD), this initiative was conducted to boost the QRTโ€™s readiness and capability in emergency response by providing hands-on knowledge on the deployment, operation, and upkeep of the DSWDโ€™s Mobile Kitchen โ€” a critical asset during disaster situations.

The training was led by resource persons from the DSWD Central Officeโ€™s Disaster Response Management Bureau (DRMB), who shared technical expertise and operational best practices throughout the sessions.

QRT participants underwent training on key aspects of Mobile Kitchen operations, including proper layout arrangement, setup procedures, cleanliness standards, and routine maintenance. They also took part in a live simulation and hands-on food preparation activity, gaining practical experience in using the mobile facility in real-time scenarios.

The Mobile Kitchen is a fully functional, self-contained unit designed to deliver hot, nutritious meals quickly to internally displaced persons (IDPs), especially those staying in evacuation centers. It plays a crucial role in ensuring food security and promoting the physical and emotional well-being of affected individuals. By supplying freshly cooked meals, it offers not just nourishment but also a sense of relief and stability during times of distress. Additionally, its adherence to sanitation and food safety protocols helps prevent foodborne illnesses, particularly in areas where access to clean water and safe cooking conditions is limited.
