A magnitude 5.6 earthquake jolted Occidental Mindoro and nearby areas 27 September 2021, according to the Earthquake Information No. 2 Report of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS). The epicenter of the earthquake, which struck at 5:59 AM was traced 5 kilometers northeast of Sablayan. It was tectonic in origin and had a depth of focus of 18 kilometers.

Relative to this, the quake was felt in nearby regions and provinces with Intensity V or ” strong” shaking with 65 reported aftershocks thus, reported intensity felt in the region are as follows:

A total of 16 families with corresponding 75 individuals from Zone 5 Brgy. San Agustin, Occidental Mindoro is affected by the occurrence of the said incident. Moreover, as per the initial result of the recently conducted RDANA, 17 houses were reported partially damaged five of which incurred Two-Hundred Eight Thousand Pesos (Php 208,000.00) worth of damage.

  1. COST OF HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE PROVIDED

A total of Seventeen Thousand Six Hundred Pesos (Php 17,600.00) worth of relief assistance was provided by the DSWD and LGU of Sablayan to the affected families of the earthquake. This includes 16 Family Food Packs (FFPs) from the DSWD and 16 Food Packs from the LGU.

  1. RESPONSE ACTIONS AND INTERVENTIONS
  • Based on the validation result of the P/MDRRMC, 16 families were identified as affected. Said families were provided with one (1) family food packs each from both DSWD and Provincial Government of Occidental Mindoro.
  • The LGU of Sablayan will provide a maximum of Php 5,000.00 financial assistance to greatly affected households with partially damaged houses depending on the assessment and impact of the said event. Schedule of pay-out will possibly be done in the 2nd or 3rd week of October;
  • Close coordination with SWADT, P/MSWDO, and P/MDRRMO, with regards to the assessment and rehabilitation plan for the affected families with damaged houses.
  • Advised SWADT Occidental and Oriental Mindoro to continuously monitor their respective area of responsibility, report any untoward incident, and thoroughly assess the situation.
  • Continuous coordination with the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and RDRRMC MIMAROPA for any significant development on the said incident;

Considering these developments, the disaster operations related to this event is now terminated.
