The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office MIMAROPA, together with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources IV (BFAR IV) held a consultation meeting held in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro on April 15, 2025.
Through the Risk Resiliency Program (RRP) under the Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD), the meeting aimed to strengthen its partnership for the implementation of Project LAWA (Local Adaptation to Water Access) and BINHI (Breaking Insufficiency through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished).
Roberto R. Abrera, BFAR Regional Director, approved the request for 84,500 fingerlings to be distributed across LAWA project sites throughout the region and committed to delivering the fingerlings to nearby provinces and providing technical assistance in growing tilapia under Project LAWA at BINHI.
Project LAWA at BINHI is a DSWD-led initiative aimed at improving water resource management and food production in drought-prone regions. BFAR plays a vital role by supplying fingerlings and offering expert guidance to support the โLAWAโ (fish breeding) component. This program enables local communities to cultivate their own fish, significantly bolstering food security and resilience during periods of drought.
