PALAWAN โ€” In a unified effort to address water scarcity and food insecurity in vulnerable communities, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) MIMAROPA and the Department of Labor and Employmentโ€™s Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (DOLE-TUPAD) conducted a virtual consultation meeting on May 2, 2025.

The session aimed to finalize preparations for the implementation of the Project Local Adaptation to Water Access (LAWA) and Breaking Insufficiency Through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished (BINHI) programs.

This year, the programs will be rolled out in three municipalities in Palawan: Coron with 200 beneficiaries, Busuanga with 220, and Brookeโ€™s Point with 300โ€”bringing the total to 720 target partner-beneficiaries.

Further, the meeting was made possible with the assistance and support of the concerned Local Government Units (LGUs) especially through the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO), Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) and Shyr Vallejo, DOLE TUPAD Coordinator in Palawan.

Project LAWA at BINHI aligns with the directive of DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian to pursue sustainable and practical solutions in response to ongoing water and food shortages, worsened by the El Niรฑo and La Niรฑa phenomena.
